About the pint numbers: capacity ratings on this page mix two standards. hOmeLabs lists DOE test pints, measured at cooler standard conditions, while AEOCKY, DECIUU and Trazico headline max condition pints measured at 95°F and 90 percent humidity. A max rating runs roughly two to two and a half times the DOE figure for the same machine, so the table marks each number to let you compare like with like.

How we score
Every dehumidifier runs through the same scorecard, so the numbers mean the same thing across brands. I weight what owners feel day to day, then roll it into one score out of 100. Capacity and coverage carry the most weight, because a unit too small for the space never wins however nice it looks. I set scores before checking prices. Capacity figures follow each manufacturer listing, and where a maker publishes only a peak number we show it as "up to", so weigh capacity alongside coverage rather than on its own.

How to choose the right one
Start with the space and how wet it is
The first question is not the brand, it is the room. A bathroom or bedroom needs a small quiet unit. A single large room wants 25 to 40 pints. A basement, especially a wet one, needs 45 pints or more and ideally a pump so you are not emptying a tank. Get the size right and almost any reputable unit will keep you dry.
Then decide how it drains
How the water leaves the unit matters more than most people expect. If it can drain on its own, by hose or pump, it runs unattended for weeks. If not, you are back to emptying a tank. Match the drainage style to where the unit will sit before you weigh anything else.
What else actually matters
After size and drainage, look at running cost and noise. Energy Star units cost less to run if the machine is on for months at a time. For a bedroom, a quieter unit is worth it. Everything else, tanks, wheels, displays, is convenience rather than performance.
